Newmusicnation.com is a blog that serves as a vast resource on music from this entire decade. Through hundreds of album reviews, countless Playlist Picks in a wide variety of genres, and year-end Top 20 Albums lists, you can get a pretty good a sense of the music Dave Powers thought was important in the ‘00s.
Dave Powers has worked in television production since 1997 for MTV and VH1, among other channels. He was a staff producer at MTV2 for five years. During that time, he produced the weekly show 120 Minutes, which became Subterranean, an interview-and-video-clip-based show focusing on new and underground artists. He also produced shows such as Chart 2 Chart, a weekly look at the popular music charts, Hip Hop’s Toughest Rhymes, a series that spells out the fastest and most unintelligible lyrics of the genre, and Playlistism, an investigative show uncovering the musical playlists of a wide variety of celebrities and non-celebrities.
In August of 2007, he became the supervising producer of Sprint Exclusive Entertainment (SEE) Music, a music television channel only available on Sprint mobile phones. The made-for-mobile destination features exclusive artist interviews, live performances, daily music news and weekly shows. Click here to see the demo site.
Since 1999, Dave’s also been a freelance writer with work appearing in Business 2.0, Fortune Small Business, Time Out New York, PC Magazine, Washington CityPaper, 3wk.com, and Baker’s Biographical Dictionary of Popular Musicians Since 1990.
He graduated from DePauw University, in Greencastle, Indiana in 1998. While in school, he was the music director of the college radio station, 91.5 FM WGRE, for two semesters, assistant music director for a semester and a specialty show DJ for four years. He also wrote a weekly album review column for the campus newspaper, The DePauw.
Dave lived in New York City for the majority of his professional career, and he currently lives in Chicago, Illinois.
