Les Georges Leningrad Sangue Puro (Tomlab)
This album should prove to anyone that Montreal is the city on the cutting edge of music. Les Georges Leningrad take the same style of Montreal indie as Wolf Parade and The Arcade Fire and put electro dark-wave beats to it with instrumentation ranging from minimalist to proto-punk in style. Sangue Puro is best described as electro-pop’s pissed off cousin. It has the electro-pop vibe going for it with rapid-fire vocals and really dark sounds behind it. “Mammal Beats” is amazingly catchy, which is amazing given how catchy each one of these songs is. The production is mind-numbingly stellar, the vocals serve not as a delivery system for any sort of message, but as another instrument to already dense nugget of music. There is truly no bad song on here. This album is unconventional and unlike anything you have ever heard in your life. It’s pissed-off electro-pop. It’s utterly brilliant. This album is sure to become a staple of any indie dance party you can find.
