Note: She’s one half of the duo Azure Ray, along with Maria Taylor. Both of them released their debut solo album this year, leaving the future of the band uncertain.
Sound: Her vocals are airy and sensual as usual, while her lush and dreamy introspection evolves to embrace a more worldly spirituality and darker mysticism. She also dabbles in pulsing alt rock and elegant ballads.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Animal“; “Les Invisibles
”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Bloodline“; “Invisible Ones Guard the Gate
“; “Leave It All
”
Recommended: If you like the idea of an Alabama art student branching out to discover a powerful, tribal energy. It’s not the vibe of the entire album, but it’s the most exciting and promising direction for her future.
Grade: A- (just missed making my Top 20 Albums of 2005)
