Sound: An indie rock version of Pink Floyd (think of their grand and epic journeys) with the recent prog ambition of Stephen Malkmus (though much less quirky) and the period, seafaring tales of The Decemberists (though not nearly as ancient, more 20th Century).
Instrumentation: In addition to the standard guitar, bass and drums, there are driving pianos, pulsing synths and cheap-sounding drum machines.
Heavy Rotation tracks: “We’re Just Temporary, Ma’am“; “The Admiral
“
Medium Rotation tracks: “Nine Good Fingers“; “O William, O Sarah
“
Recommended: If you’re looking for a cerebral singer/songwriter that strikes a balance between ambitious and easy-to-swallow.
Grade: B+
