Sound: A hard-to-categorize hybrid of roots rock, alt country, freak folk and bluesy punk channeled through an indie rock aesthetic.
Vocals: Frontwoman Erika Wennerstrom has a husky howl that’s airy, understated, sometimes quivering, occasionally haunting and always captivating.
Notable instruments: Mandolin, banjo, violin and slide guitar
Heavy Rotation tracks: “Wide Awake”
Medium Rotation tracks: “Out At Sea”; “Could Be So Happy”; “Nothing Seems the Same”; “Early In the Morning”
Recommended: Despite The Mountain’s confounding eclecticism, Erika’s mesmerizing vocals hold everything together. It’s an exciting adventure from start to finish.
